Academy
Prep Graduates 2011
Families
of Academy Prep St. Petersburg graduates, joined by staff,
community leaders, trustees, and volunteers, were impressed
by the success of this year’s graduating class.
Five of the 11 graduates are attending private schools including
Admiral Farragut Academy, Canterbury School of Florida, Northside
Christian, and Chatham Hall School in Chatham, VA on scholarships.
The graduates attending public high schools have been accepted
in magnet and honors programs.

William Johnson, a 2003 Academy Prep graduate and a Tuskegee
University senior, was the commencement speaker. William referred
to his Academy Prep experiences as a turning point in his
life.
He encouraged the graduates to take full advantage of the
opportunities they have been given. “Don’t let
anyone tell you that you can’t achieve your dreams…strive
for the best and always remember to give back to others.”
Sara Young, the class valedictorian, stated that “Academy
Prep has prepared us for any challenges ahead and I know that
we will be able to tackle any problems that come our way and
emerge victorious. We are truly the world’s greatest.”
Sara also received the BB&T Math Scholar Award including
a $500 scholarship. Fellow graduate, Dre’Quan Lumpkin
was awarded the Roberto Hernandez Athlete Scholar Award, presented
by Mr. Hernandez himself, given to a student who achieves
honors in the classroom and on the playing field.
Not only were the graduates honored for their achievements,
the parents also were recognized for their involvement. Cardeair
Bell spoke on behalf of his classmates thanking the families
for the encouragement they have provided along the way.
LX Harris, a performer and artist-in-residence at the Royal
Theater, provided an inspirational performance for the audience.
He sang the graduates’ favorite song, “The World’s
Greatest” in honor of their special day.
The evening was full of tears of joy, as our graduates were
honored for their successful years at Academy Prep.
