Preparing
for the Future
Paige Montgomery, a 2006 graduate of Academy
Prep Center of St. Petersburg, makes it very clear to
all who will listen that she "does not like math".
In fact, Paige exclaims that she is "afraid"
of math! But Paige, like several other members of the
class of 2006, spent 6 consecutive Saturdays, throughout
September and October, learning, studying, and honing
their math and language arts skills as they diligently
prepared for the fall sitting of the ACT.
Paige, a senior at Manatee School for the Arts in Palmetto,
Florida, plans to study Communications and Fine Arts
at a 4-yr. college or university, preferably within
the state of Florida, next fall. Paige and her classmates
understand the competitive nature of college admissions,
so, she has vowed to take advantage of every resource
that her school and Academy Prep has to offer, which
includes workshops on the college application process,
ACT prep-courses, and standardized testing waivers.
Paige plans to pursue a career in Broadcast Journalism
after high school and college. Though some may feel
that "math" won't play a major role in pursuing
such a career, Paige understands the nuances of a well-rounded
education, and how it will positively affect the college
admissions process, as well as her career goals.
Neither Paige, nor her 2006 classmates are able to
predict their academic futures at this point in their
lives, but, they can control their ability to exhaust
every resource available to them to pursue their academic
goals and career objectives. Good luck, Paige! And,
good luck to the Academy Prep Class of 2006! |

NativityMiguel
and WalMart Inspire A Generation!
Academy Prep (St. Petersburg and Tampa) is truly grateful
to the NativityMiguel Network of Schools and WalMart
Foundation for supporting the 8th Grade College Exposure
Program. The WalMart Foundation Grant gave students
from both schools the opportunity to travel to Daytona
Beach for what turned-out to be a wonderful day of site-seeing,
information gathering, and inspiration.
Twenty-eight 8th graders, from APT and APSP, traveled
to Bethune Cookman University in April to visit one
of America's most Historic Black Colleges and Universities.
The students, accompanied by several parents, were led
by the Graduate Support staff in an effort to further
inspire academic and personal achievement within a generation
of future leaders. Students were exposed to classrooms,
dormitories, libraries, and dining halls. College life,
inside and outside of the classroom, was on full display
for these wide-eyed young people to witness.
University staff and students shared their college
experiences with the 8th Graders, as well as motivation
and inspiration for these students to continue to hold
education as "life's priority", for education
is the key to success for every generation.
